Image Databases
As a community information consultant, I have worked with several libraries helping them make their special collections accessible to the public by developing internet image databases. This was very challenging and rewarding work.
I am especially proud of three of these that are still actively used today by librarians, students, and researchers.
Marguerite deAngeli Collection, Marguerite deAngeli Library, Lapeer District Library, Michigan
Saginaw Images, Public Libraries of Saginaw, Michigan
J. Robert Crouse Autograph Collection, Hartland Library, Michigan
I've provided some brief information about each project below. I hope you take some time to explore these special collection databases.

Marguerite deAngeli Collection
The
Marguerite deAngeli Library in Lapeer, Michigan, houses one of the
largest collections of original art work, manuscripts, personal
correspondences and memorabilia of Marguerite deAngeli outside of her
family. The Library feels a special stewardship for the works of Mrs.
deAngeli and is actively pursuing strategies that will preserve her
works and continue public awareness of her as years go by.
This
site was developed when I was the the assistant director of the Lapeer
County Library (1995-1998). We received an LSTA grant as part of a
Mideastern Michigan Library Consortium digitization project. With
that, I spearheaded the development of the Marguerite deAngeli Digital Holdings.
This allows internet access to a majority of the special collections
housed in the library that previously had been unavailable to the
public. I worked with Sheryl Cormicle-Knox of Clarus Information Architects on the
image database and accompanying architecture, metadata indexing and access points.
While
I was at this job, I also had an artist friend of mine, Barbara
Lawless, (through a Michigan Arts Council grant) create a mural to go
in the staircase of the library depicting Mrs. deAngeli and characters
from her stories.
Working with a special 75th anniversary committee, we put in an application for a historical marker honoring Mrs. deAngeli and Louis Cramton.
I've
been gone from this library for quite awhile now -- it is gratifying to
know that the work I did there on behalf of the legacy of Marguerite
deAngeli still is making an impact.

Saginaw Images
After starting my business, Terwilliger Associates, I worked with the staff of the Public Libraries of Saginaw to build an image database allowing access to historical photographs that were in the library's special collections. Partnering again with Sheryl Cormicle-Knox of Clarus InformationArchitects, we produced Saginaw Images.
Saginaw Images is a collection of pictures and essays that illustrate the history of Saginaw, Michigan. You will find photographs, art works, primary source materials, and essays that tell the story of the people who have called Saginaw home.

| J. Robert Crouse Autograph Collection
This collection is composed of letters, photos, autographs and artifacts from notable writers, entertainers, scientists, political leaders, and public figures. J. Robert Crouse, Sr. donated these items to the Cromaine Library to inspire young and old to investigate these exemplars. The originals are housed in the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan.
In 2000, The Cromaine Library engaged the services of Terwilliger Associates to provide technical support for the project. Terwilliger Associates has been responsible for digitizing, database design, information architecture, web interface, developing procedures and manuals, mounting the database, and staff training. Once again, I partnered with Sheryl Cormicle-Knox of Clarus Information Architects.
