I spent almost ten years as a junior high social studies and English teacher. I really enjoyed that age group. I really enjoyed developing teaching units that challenged the kids to find relevance in their daily lives to whatever we were studying. Many years later I took a class in instructional design in order to keep my teaching certificate up to date. Here's what I produced:

Stock Broker
As a stock broker, I worked mostly with retired people who were trying to protect their principal and live off their interest and dividends. An impossibility in today's world on next to no interest rates without tremendous risk. I don't know what those people would be doing today. It just got to be too much after almost nine years. I still think it is fun to watch the market and track some favorite companies. I did buy some Apple stock some 30 years ago and some Disney -- those were very good long term investments.

Professional Librarian
I went back to college in 1994 to get a Masters in Information and Library Studies from the University of Michigan. One of the things I did was develop the first website for the Michigan Library Association. I got to go to the American Library Association Conference in New York City and be a presenter at the chapter enclave (where other state library associations got together) where I showed them what the website looked like. Of course, 25 years later, it looks entirely different. Back then, there were no web editors, all HTML coding was done by hand -- kind of like the difference between a 10 inch black and white Magnavox in a 50 inch cabinet and watching TV on your telephone : ) Technology has been a wonderful thing for the dissemination of information.

Community Information Consultant
After getting critically ill, I was told by the doctors that I could no longer function in a library environment because of the damaging effects of the allergens to my respiratory system. So, I started my own consulting business. I worked with libraries on special projects that were mainly funded through grants. It was great fun and hard work. I had a wonderful partner who was the information architect, building the interactive databases. I worked with archives in evaluating holdings, organizing materials and making items accessible through the internet through digitization projects.
I did many other projects as a consultant. I have to say the digital image databases were the most fun. You can see some of the things we developed that are still in use today. Image Databases
(BTW - regarding my health - I am fine with no problems for over two years - by controlling my environment and staying out of continued stressful situations - I have been made whole - cool!)
